Since Kaylene was born she's always had sensitive skin. We took so many trips to the Doctors office asking about the dry patches that popped up on her body and the countless prescriptions that did not work out. Read on for tips on how we learned to manage Kaylene’s sensitive skin and what products we use.
When the patches got worse they started to turn red and looked more irritated. We decided to switch doctors and our new doctor at the time told us that Kaylene has Eczema, a medical condition in which patches of skin become rough and inflamed. I wasn't surprised because it runs in our family and she told us it's common in Asian babies.
When it's really cold out I notice that she starts to scratch more and small patches pop up on her skin. When it's summer her Eczema disappears. Now that she's a year old her skin has been a lot better. I feel that giving her a bath everyday and moisturizing when her skin is still damp helps a ton.
Products and Doctors Tips
I use Hydrocortisone 1% when I start to see red dry patches and I use Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream everyday after her bath. The doctor also recommended us to change her laundry detergent and body wash. We changed her detergent to All free clear liquid detergent from using the Dreft Baby liquid detergent. She also told us that it’s best for her to have a unscented detergent and that Dreft is not unscented. She recommended we use the Dove sensitive skin beauty bar. It's also unscented and using a bar soap leaves less residue on the skin than a body wash would.
